Ludwig van Beethoven's final complete compositions are string quartets, rightfully considered among the most significant achievements in Western music. A couple of years before his death, the composer endured an illness that lasted over a month. Upon recovery, he composed an otherworldly slow movement titled "Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity" for his five-movement A minor quartet. Robert Schumann dedicated his Piano Quintet to his wife, Clara Schumann. In 1842, it was the first work of its kind, written for concert grand piano and string quartet. The piece's romantic, varied moods, and irresistible melodies make its musical language captivating.
