Tami Pohjola
Violin
Tami Pohjola (b. 1996) is one of the leading Finnish violinists of her generation. Her outstanding technical command, versatile expressiveness, humble approach to music and captivating interpretations have won acclaim internationally. She is equally at home with cornerstones of the classical repertoire, such as Mozart and Sibelius, and challenging, newly composed violin concertos by composers including Saariaho, Salonen and Adès.
Pohjola has appeared as a soloist with almost all Finnish orchestras, as well as with internationally renowned ensembles such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hallé in Manchester. In spring 2024, she was one of the artists selected by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for its Future-themed season.
Pohjola is also an active chamber musician. “In chamber music, it feels as though everyone is breathing the same air,” she has said. She has performed at numerous major chamber music festivals and with acclaimed musicians such as Miriam Fried, Janine Jansen, and Krzysztof Chorzelski. From 2017 to 2021, she was one of the artistic directors of the Helsinki Kamarikesä festival.
Tami Pohjola has won both national and international competitions, including the International Dinu Lipatti Violin Competition in 2019 and the Kuopio Violin Competition in 2015. In 2009, she also won the international Young Musician competition in Estonia.
